Cosmetology 1 & 2
Cosmetology is from the human services cluster and is a two-year program. If you enjoy working with people and their grooming needs, cosmetology may be for you. Students learn techniques and styles used in hairdressing, facials, manicures and more. The program prepares students with theory and practical skills to pass the State Cosmetology Examination that is required to obtain a cosmetologist license. For this reason, it is suggested that students in cosmetology have a sound science background. Students receive safety training before participating in hands-on projects. The average salary for a cosmetologist is $11.13 per hour with many earning over $20.41 an hour.
Salary information was obtained from the current edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook published by the U.S. Department of Labor (www.bls.gov/oco). Potential earnings are based on national salaries for an average work week. Local earnings will vary and depend upon business conditions and a worker's level of education, motivation and experience.
